Salaries

Annual salaries for teaching positions are based upon verification of prior years of full-time public school teaching experience, certification, and degree. See Salary Schedule.

The applicant must contact their prior employer(s) and have verification of experience forwarded to Pike Road Schools (PRS). All applicants will start on the salary schedule at level -0- and will remain there until verification of experience has been received.

Personal Leave

All eligible employees are granted five (5) personal leave days per year. Employees may use personal leave at any time as approved by their principal/supervisor. Personal leave does not accumulate from year to year. The first two days are provided at no cost to the employee and are earned at a rate of one day per semester. Each of the remaining three days (when used) will result in the employee's gross pay being reduced by a substitute teacher's pay rate.

Vacation Leave (12-month employees)

Twelve (12) month employees will earn vacation leave each month and carry forward up to 15 days of vacation leave each year. Employees may not take vacation leave in advance.

Sick Leave

Sick leave is earned at the rate of one day per month while in paid status. Sick leave can be carried forward from year to year.

Retirement

The Pike Road School System is a member of the Alabama Teacher's Retirement System (TRS). Membership is mandatory for all full-time employees. An employee who became a member of TRS before January 1, 2013, is classified as a TRS Tier 1 member. An employee who became a TRS member after January 1, 2013, and does not have prior service years with the Retirement Systems of Alabama (RSA), is classified as a TRS Tier 2 Member. PRS employees have the opportunity to participate in a variety of group and individual benefits. There are typically three times during the year that enrollment or changes are permitted:

  1. Within 30 days of the date of hire
  2. After Qualifying Life Events
  3. During Annual Open Enrollment
    1. PEEHIP- July 1 – September 10
